RoastSource is built around modules — each one handles a different part of the roasting workflow. Depending on your Display Mode (Craft, Journey, or Science), you may see all of them or just the essentials. Here's what each one does and why it's there.
Inventory
Your coffee library. Every bean you buy goes here — origin, processing, variety, vendor, roast level, quantity tracking. When you start a roast, you pick from inventory so the app knows what you're working with and can generate the right profile. Decaf beans are fully supported with adjusted roast parameters.
Available in all Display Modes.
Roasting
The core of the app. Two ways to roast:
- Quick Roast — Pick a bean, choose a roast level, go. Three information modes during the roast: Minimal (timer + milestones only), Guided (phase names, sensory cues, first crack countdown), or Detailed (live DTR%, development time). Milestone buttons stick to the bottom of the screen so you never scroll mid-roast. Haptic feedback on every tap.
- Adaptive Roast — The profiling engine. Builds a step-by-step roast plan calibrated to your specific roaster, bean, and target level. Walks you through each phase with timing guidance and sensory cues. Supports temperature probes for real-time data.
Both modes generate a Roast Quality Score (0–100) after every roast — "where to focus" and "what's working" feedback calibrated to your roaster model.
Available in all Display Modes.
Brewing
Brew calculators and reference for dialing in your coffee after it's roasted. Ratio calculators, extraction guidance, and method-specific tips.
Available in all Display Modes.
Java Geek (Coffee Expert)
The deep knowledge module. An interactive world map covering 49 coffee-producing countries — tap any region to explore origins, processing methods, varieties, grades, and flavor profiles. Region-level detail on altitude, harvest seasons, and what makes each origin distinctive.
Available in all Display Modes.
Ratings & Cupping
Rate every roast on a structured scorecard. Views include: All Ratings, By Coffee, By Method, By Roast Level, By Country, Summary, Charts, and Tasting Guide. The app suggests scores based on your bean's origin, processing, and roast data — you adjust from there.
Available in Journey and Science modes.
Blending
Blend builder with preset recipes — espresso, cold brew, blends inspired by top roasters, by brewing method, by personality, and world blends. Robusta espresso recipes included (Naples-style, third-wave accent, Vietnamese-inspired, crema-focused).
Available in Journey and Science modes.
Roasting Equipment
Equipment Advisor — roaster deep dives, comparisons, and upgrade path guidance. Detailed profiles for specific roaster models with capacity, control type, and what they're best suited for.
Available in Journey and Science modes. (Craft users can access via "Discover more" toggle.)
Roaster Profiles — Works With Any Roaster
RoastSource works with whatever you roast on. The app includes three types of roaster support:
Calibrated roasters — 10 models with individually tuned timing, temperature targets, and roast profiles:
- Fresh Roast SR800, SR540
- Ikawa Home
- Aillio Bullet R1 V2, R2
- Behmor 1600 Plus, 2000AB Plus
- Huky 500
- Hottop KN-8828B-2K+
- Gene Cafe CBR-101
- Attachment modifiers for Razzo V4T/V5T extension tubes
Commercial roasters — 7 commercial models with class-based fallbacks:
- Mill City 1/2/3 kg, Giesen W6A, Diedrich IR-1, Probat P05, Loring S7 Nighthawk
DIY roasters — 9 dedicated profiles for hands-on methods:
- Popcorn Popper (Poppery, West Bend)
- Heat Gun + Dog Bowl
- Heat Gun + Bread Machine Pan
- Heat Gun + Flour Sifter / Colander
- Whirley Pop / Stovetop Popcorn Popper
- Cast Iron Pan / Skillet / Wok
- BBQ Grill Rotisserie Drum
- Custom-Built Fluid-Bed Roaster
- Custom-Built Drum Roaster
Not on the list? Pick the closest match by type (fluid-bed, drum, or hybrid) and RoastSource adapts. The generated profiles use your roaster's heat source, batch capacity, and control type to calibrate — you don't need a named model to get useful guidance.
Set up your roaster during the welcome flow (Step 2) or anytime in Settings → Equipment.
Display Modes — See What Matters to You
Not everyone needs every module on day one. RoastSource has three Display Modes that control which modules appear in your navigation:
- Craft — Inventory, Roasting, Brewing, Java Geek. For roasters who work by sight, smell, and sound.
- Journey — Everything in Craft plus Ratings, Blending, and Roasting Equipment. For roasters adding data to their process.
- Science — Everything. Full analytics, charts, DTR tracking, probe support.
Your data is always the same regardless of mode — Display Mode just controls what's visible. Switch anytime in Settings → Display Mode.
