RoastSource Community Guidelines
This forum exists so home coffee roasters can learn from each other, share what works, and have real conversations about roasting. These guidelines keep it useful for everyone.
Be Helpful
The best posts teach something — a technique that worked, a mistake worth avoiding, a profile that dialed in a tricky bean. Share specifics: what roaster, what bean, what temps, what you tasted. "It was good" doesn't help the next person. "Ethiopian Yirgacheffe natural, SR800, 400F charge, dropped at 7:30 right after first crack — tons of blueberry and a clean finish" does.
Be Respectful
You'll meet people who roast completely differently than you. Light roast chasers pulling right after first crack. Dark roast roasters pushing deep into second crack. Data-driven roasters logging every 30 seconds. Instinct roasters who go entirely by sight, sound, and smell. All valid. Challenge ideas, not people.
Stay on Topic
This is a coffee roasting community. Discussions should relate to roasting, equipment, green coffee, brewing, tasting, or RoastSource. General coffee appreciation is fine in General Discussion. Off-topic posts may be moved or removed.
No Spam
Don't post just to promote a product or service. If you're a vendor and want to participate genuinely — sharing roasting knowledge, answering questions, contributing profiles — that's welcome. But if your only posts are links to your store, they'll be removed.
Feature Requests
Want something added to RoastSource? Post it in Feature Requests. Be specific about the problem you're trying to solve, not just the feature you want. Other members can upvote to signal demand.
Bug Reports
Found a bug? Post it in Software & Data with steps to reproduce, your browser, and what you expected vs. what happened. Screenshots help.
Moderation
Posts that violate these guidelines will be edited or removed. Repeated violations result in a warning, then a temporary mute, then a ban. This has never happened and I hope it never does.
